My first attempt at patchwork

My very good friend has just had a baby boy and so I have decided to make a baby size patchwork quilt for him.

I will make 9 blocks i think and back with flannelet. I have seen others do patchwork in strips but I have opted for blocks because I don't trust that I could make the patches line up. Maybe when I have more confidence this will be the easier option.

I think choosing colours is probably the hardest part of making patchwork and I'm always amazed at how well different colour combos go together. Cross fingers my fabric choices work out as a whole.

We'll see soon enough :)

My Creative space...

So very close to finishing this quilt that started a long long time ago... sounds like the start of a fairy tale so I'm looking forward to the warm fuzzies and the end of this creation. It's fox's quilt. he's been on my tail to get it finished and i tried so hard to make a 'masculine' type quilt only to be told otherwise. Never mind, I'm sure he'll enjoy snuggling up under it very soon.

My second project on the go is my Quilt for Queensland. Just after i started making this baby the foot pedal on the pfaff gave up in the humidity and who can blame it really, it's been a hell of a wet season to put it nicely. A replacement pedal arrived from the states last week and I'm just it the process of quilting it together.

I decided to hand quilt it to give some extra loving to it's soon to be new owner. Never hand quilted before... it's a bit harsh on the finger tips but amazingly relaxing and fulfilling at the same time. You should try it.

I have one more project on the go but I will save it for later. Have fun checking out all the lovely Creative spaces over at Kootoyoo.... looks like the lovely Kirsty is trying something new too :)

Meekas xmas quilt... finito

This quilt I call "the teenager's Mind" because it's kind of random & busy. I put a flannel back on it for extra snuggly goodness, like a big hug from mama.

It's actually called the Flower Quick Quilt ( a big lie fyi - NOT quick) by Joy White

















And now it is time to start packing up the house...

Packers arrive on Monday & The truck picks everything up on Tuesday.

Then we drive out of Brisbane early Wednesday, hoping to get to Eumundi Markets before we stop over in Hervey Bay. Stay tuned for some lovely pics of our travels north.

Ooo and I got an early cristmas pressie, fox bought me an awesome camera, now I have to figure out how to use it :)

xmas ...

this year we will not be putting up decorations or a tree. we are moving out 2 days before xmas.

this is the military life... we wanted to leave earlier and be settled in our new home for xmas but through circumstances out of our control this was not to be the case. yes i'm sad.

nonetheless we will still enjoy it. we will be in a hotel which will require major stealth and co ordination on santas behalf. i have booked in to xmas dinner which is something we've never done before, so i'm looking forward to it although it can be a bit dodgey for us coeliacs.

check this out... i just found this gorgeous online mag, it has the sweetest xmas download. i'm going to use it to make cards for the daycare ladies..

this year i'm trying to do a handmande xmas and so far i think i will achieve most of my tasks. next year i will be better prepared and definately start earlier!

today i will have completed piecing together all 16 blocks for Connor's quilt, i just need to head into spotlight tommorrow and pick up the inners and it should be completed by the weekend.

the piecing of just 1 block takes around 1 hour...

The Machine that started it all

Hi there, i'm new to the world of blogging, love reading them but when it came to having my own it seemed somewhat overwhealming to begin with. So... what should I put in my first post? Well i though it fitting that I show you my beautiful machine and what she has helped me make so far.



She's an old Janome that was bought from an oppy 9 years ago. Since then we have made bathers, pijamas, my wedding dress, fairy dress ups, batman capes etc. and just last year I decided I would start quilting. I figured if I could make my own wedding dress then quilts would be easy right?



So I made this Quilt for my cousin's little boy Jack. Then I made a heap of library bags for friends and family...



The twins needed School library & chair bags



An most recently I finished Dmans Pirate quilt. I started not long after I finishe Jack's quilt last year. It was an UFO until motivation struck me down in the form of a nagging husband who was in my ear about making something for our own kids for once...



So happy when this baby was completed. And Dman just loves it too.

So now i'm in the process of making xmas quilts for the Twins. Connor chose the quilt I made for Jack but i'm making it bigger for him And Meeka is getting a flower quilt. Will show more later.
